Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everybody!!!
For the longest time I hated new year resolutions. First of all they last maybe a month but they do succeed at making you feel guilty the rest of the year. Second I can never remember mine even though they are the same as every other breathing human's resolutions- lose weight, join gym, eat more healthy things, read a book a month, read more classical books, stay on top of current events, be more friendly, keep up with friends, make more time for friends, achieve perfection physically, mentally, and emotionally......blahblahblahblah. February 1st - resolutions remembered - 0! Yay throw a party - not. And lastly they are usually impractical and sometimes things I dont even want to do, like read more classical books. If I actually wanted to read more classical books I would take a class. I'm in college for crying out loud who reads for fun when you have 3 papers, a quiz, two exams, and your already 2 episodes behind on Greys Anatomy! If I read its counting for something besides personal gain or pleasure (this mostly has to do with the fact that it takes only 9 years for me to read something, if turtles could read they would read faster than I do.)
As I was saying I used to hate new year resolutions until one year I decided to pick one thing to work on all year, instead of trying to make a new me by the next year. This thing is something that already needs improvement in my life and is something that I can deal with practically on a day-to-day basis. Most of the time it has a slogan, such as "stop-think" (as in stop and think about what you are about to say or do before you say or do it.
This year I have decided to focus on being slow to speak and quick to listen. I have noticed that I can be quick on the draw with judgements or opinions. It would be more beneficial if I spent more time thinking about things and listening to people before I opened my mouth. James 1:19 is the bible reference for this principle also it says to be slow to anger. I think I might work on that too ;)

Happy New Year
Praise God from whom all our blessings flow.
Let our hearts and minds be focused on Him as we enter into a new year. Though this year may be filled with great sadness or overwhelming joy let us always be grateful for God's mercy and justice. Let our focus always be on glorifying God the Father maker of heaven and earth. Let us strive together to be holy for without holiness no one will see the Lord. (heb 12:14)
